WESLEY SEEWALD
Wes practices in family law, commercial litigation, estate litigation and criminal law.
Called to the bar in 2020, Wes has conducted over 70 trials across the spectrum of his practice areas and is equally at home before judges, juries, registrars and magistrates across Queensland. When not before the Courts, Wes is often engaged in drafting and settling Court documents or in appearing at mediations and settlement conferences.
Family Law:
Wes regularly appears in trial before each division of the Federal Circuit and Family Courts of Australia in both property and parenting matters for applicant, respondent and independent children’s lawyer. While this work is primarily in Brisbane, Wes has conducted trials further afield in regional places including Cairns, Bundaberg, Lismore (NSW), Hervey Bay and his hometown of Toowoomba.
Commercial litigation:
While conducting a broad commercial litigation practice, Wes predominantly appears at trial briefed for major insurers in motor-vehicle accident property claims. Wes writes advices for commercial clients on matters of law and evidence; and is engaged to draft and settle pleadings, applications and other Court documents, as well as letters of offer, notices and requests per the UCPR.
Estate litigation:
Wes has recently broadened his practice to include estate litigation having practiced as a wills and estates solicitor (inter alia) prior to being called to the bar. Wes is available to settle applications, draft orders, provide advices, and to appear at mediation or trial.
Criminal Law:
Wes is an experienced trial advocate in criminal law and is a regular Circuit Counsel for Legal Aid Queensland. Wes has conducted jury trials in Brisbane, Beenleigh, Warwick, Ipswich, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba, Kingaroy, Emerald and Charleville. While predominantly engaged by defence solicitors, Wes also appears on occasion for the prosecution.
